It depends on the agency. Some are fine with it, others not. You may also have a longer wait if you specify gender, because you will have a smaller pool of emoms looking at you. I initially specified that I wanted a boy, then changed my mind and decided I didn't care. When I had my homestudy done they wanted to know why I was specifying, but that was it.

It is very hard to specify gender. Many agencies don't allow it. Some agencies allow it only if you have other children in the home.
Specifying gender will take longer, especially if you specify that you want a girl. We only waited 8 months for my son - we were not specifying race or gender. We waited 19 months for my daughter - we were specifying race (AA) and gender.
People will also try to make you feel guilty for wanting one gender over the other. They'll say that you wouldn't get to choose if you had a biological child. I wrote a blog post to counter that argument:

I hope this helps!

Thank Robyn- I am a Robin as well:) I will read your blog !
And what I would say to THOSE people is that since I get to pay 40000 and they don't then I feel like I can choose if I want!! I would like one of each and just feel like dang , can't the infertile get an advantage!:)
I haven't been able to find any here that will let me pick gender so I guess I just have to see
I think It takes a lot longer and it may cost more. You have the right to want what you want. Most people don't understand what trying to have children is like when you are infertile. Staying true to yourself during this long roller coaster is the best thing you can do! Good luck on your adoption journey!

We are going through A Act of Love Adoptions and they allow you to specify without an additional charge. They do warn you that it will increase your wait time anytime you make specifications. Good luck!

As a birth parent, I can't to be selective about people who are biased against gender. If a child has to be a certain gender or race to be adoptable, then you have no place adopting.
And for the record, the mother of your child GETS TO:
go trough 9 motnhs of pregnancy to come home empty hadned
have stretch marks and no baby
spend her days praying to the porcelain goddess
endure labor
And in your case, hope that her baby comes out with the expected genitalia.
