Hello everyone! Me and my wife just got licensed yesterday. Tech it was the 5th we got approved but the lady didn't contact our agent until yesterday! We are now waiting for a placement call and it's driving me crazy! So I decided to join the forum and pick your brains! What should i expect from the first call? How long does it usually take? We are fostering 0-8 boy or girl.
How fast you get called depends on your area. Here it's fast! Mine was within 2 weeks and haven't been open longer than that since.
As for what to expect. It's best not to have expectations. Be prepared to roll with the punches.
A few typical things are:
A visit within the first couple days.
Coming with nothing but the clothes on their back
Being fearful at bedtime
Insatiable hunger or refusal to eat - both normal
Pick a Dr you want to use now and prepare them for the fact you will need to get in quickly. Clinics have insane overbooking and wait times.
Be prepared for lots of questions from friends and family that you will have to deflect.
Routines that won't be norm for you. (not eating at the table, junk food obsessed, going to bed with tv on, afraid to undress or bathe)
Try to introduce household routines and rules from the beginning, but expect a big learning curve!

My placements have all been a telephone call and told to pick them up at the DCS office or the case worker brings them to my house. No visit. Some came with clothes, some not.
