Hi all, brand new to the forums and adoption as well.
I've spoken briefly with a couple different agencies, mainly about qualifications and such, and have set up an account with Rainbow Kids to view waiting children.
I'm sure this is a dumb question, but - there are more "waiting children" available than are on the Rainbow Kids site, right? Will agencies have their own listings that they will provide once you've applied or been approved? How does all this work?
For those that have adopted "waiting children" - how long does it usually take? Do you select your child when you send in the dossier?
I'm still trying to figure out all the terminology and acronyms and requirements, and it's all a bit overwhelming. Sure hope it gets easier. :) Thank you in advance for any assistance. :)
I'm very new to this so I may not be the best person to answer this, but yes there are a lot more waiting children than those who are on Rainbow Kids. For example in my agency and I suspect most of the others, many of the WC do not even get posted online because the agency sends their info to families who are signed up with them. This is often true for younger and minor SN kids. You will fill out a form with your agency that says what "type" of child you are interested in and they will try to match you with one, you are also free to request info about any WC from the shared or agancy specific list that you are working with.
I don't know how long the process takes because we are only a month in, and just submitted our LOI (Letter of Interest) for a specific WC today. The process seems really slow (because of paperwork) If approved I am hoping to travel next summer. But really I have NO IDEA of the timeframe. chinaadopttalk.com has timeframes, but I'm so new to the process that I don't know what all the acronyms mean, lol so it isn'e helpful to me :)
Good luck, sorry I couldn't be of more help.
