Having become a newly adoptive family, I was COMPLETELY unaware of this credit until 2 days ago. Finding correct information on this has proven to be rather challenging. So I have created an account on these forums for information with fellow adoptive parents. Here is our situation:Our child was born Apr 2010Placement (fostering) with us was granted Nov 2010Adoption Assistance began Dec 1 2011Adoption finalized Jan 20 2012We have documentation of our child being special needsFrom my understanding, we do not qualify for the 2011 refundable credit because we missed the finalization date by a mere 20 days. However we have had our child since 2010 and there are all kinds of stipulations in regards to being special needs. In addition the "adoption" was recognized in Dec with the start of adoption assistance. I am not sure where we fall. I have already filled our 2011 taxes so I would have to file an amended return if I do qualify. Any information or contacts to someone that would know is greatly appreciated.Semper Fi
