The agency we are looking at charges $750 app fee, $1250 homestudy fee, $1300 pre-adoptive services, and $16500 at placement. However, they also mention pass along costs from the birth mother.Could anybody tell me if they ended up having these costs and what were they, and how much where they? I know some mom's probably don't have medicaid, but most of them really should, so I can't imagine huge medical fees. What else could there be? This isn't cheap to begin with and if we are looking at thousands and thousands of dollars of more fees on top of the ones already listed then I am thinking we can't do it.

Depending on the state that the birthmother is in, she may be allowed to have her living and medical expenses paid for while pregnant and for 6-8 weeks afterwards. This is very state dependent so you will need to check with an attorney for the state she is in about what is allowed. Every situation is different and the expenses needed will be different. You should set a budget for what you can afford and communicate that to the agency so they only show your profile to birthmoms who meet your budget.
