I always gently, VERY gently used the softest of soft baby hairbrushes with a little baby oil on them and oh so gently massaged the babys' head with it. You have to be super careful though that you don't make their little head red and sore.
Now, I would do something a little different. I was at a drug store today and saw a product that is made specifically for cradle cap.
Make sure that you don't ever put oil on their hair, no matter how much it helps keep the 'do' in place. Also, always make sure that you rinse every last particle of soap off them and dry thoroughly. These things can help keep the cradle cap at bay.

I agree with Withay. My baby would get cradle cap if I was not extremely vigilant about rinsing his hair during bath time. I also used a very soft baby brush to brush his hair if he got cradle cap to loosen those flakes. You may have to try different shampoos and treatments until you find the product that works best for your baby. Good Luck!
My pediatrician that I had with my first two kids always said to use a soft toothbrush to scrub off cradle cap. I tried it, but the hair tended to get wound up in the bristles and I had trouble telling if I was doing it too hard or not hard enough. What I ended up doing, with all six of my kids , was using my fingernails. That might sound horrible, but I did right after I had washed their hair, when it was softened up and then I very gently and carefully kind of scooped it off with my fingernails. My first son had really stubborn cradle cap that would always come back. When he was a little more than three years old, I buzzed his head. We were in Arizona then and went swimming every day. Getting the sun right on it finally got rid of it completely.I also had kind of a hard time with my youngest son's. He is "full" black, with very very thick, tightly coiled hair. Another thing was that it was harder to see cradle cap on my darkest kids.My youngest daughter is Haitian/Filipino, so her features may be quite a bit like your son's. She was born with a very thick head of hair, but it was very straight for the first few months. Then, it got a little more curly until it was quite curly, but the texture, for the most part, is like Filipino hair. She's 17 now, and a beautiful girl.
