About two weeks ago we got our first placement. A 4 yr old boy and a 3 yr old girl. They were only with us for 3 days but we a GREAT first placement. The girl had beautiful long hair and of course I made sure to put it up each day to keep in from getting to tangled up.
Fast forward two weeks and my scalp has been itching for several days now. I just attributed it to our chlorine levels being off in the new hot tub. That is until this morning when I found a small bug in my hair. At that moment I knew exactly what had happened. Our lovely first placements gave us a gift that we wish would quit giving! LICE... Oh those horrible creatures that make your head itch just thinking about it.
I immediately tried calling the doctors office hoping that I had just randomly walked into a spider web or something. Any thing but having lice would have worked at that moment. Since I couldn't get through and had to go in to town anyways I just stopped in thinking they could do a quick check and send me on my way. (I was still in denial at this point.) Well three nurses and a doctor later I am given a prescription for lice treatment and sent on my way. (Highlight of the offices day it appeared. They seemed a bit too happy to find actual lice in someone's hair.) The thought of having something moving in my hair.... Oh it was such a long wait for that prescription!
Guess this will just make our story even more interesting for those inevitable future training ice breakers. Plus I will be assuming all future placements have lice as soon as they walk in the door from now on. (Best way to prevent seems to be coconut conditioner and tea tree oil in shampoo and conditioner.)
Oh and if you ever find yourself needing to treat for lice. Google has more suggestions for non chemical treatments then I ever thought possible.

Thanks, my husband seems to have escaped unscathed thankfully. My wonderful MIL just stopped by to do another check and couldn't find anything in my hair so I think we may get lucky! Here I was worried we would forget about the kids. No way that will happen now. I can chuckle about it now that I don't itch every second.
I'm glad it's over!! I itched just reading your post, lol
fwiw, I took a sib group of 5 about 2 years ago, and had the same 'gift':thankyou:
OF COURSE cys didn't 'warn' me, and when I told them, they said, 'oh yes, that was an ONGOING issue in that family:grr:
amazingly we didn't catch it, but for about 4 weeks I greased my hair up every day with oil, for fear, that they will jump on me (read somewhere that grease prevents the gritters from 'holding on' )
