Hello! My partner and I are hoping to start the foster/adopt process sometime in the next year, and would love people's insights on the "best" choice in the SF Bay Area.
Is the county a good option here, or should we be considering a FFA? What have people's specific experiences been? If you used a FFA, what did you like/dislike? Same q with experience w/the county?
We'd be looking for a single child, age infant to 5 years old. Thanks! Any/all input welcome.
My favorite thing about our FFA is knowing that they are looking for our ideal placement. We won't be getting calls that don't match our criteria. The team at the office has gotten to know us personally and has additional services, included after adoption classes, assistance, etc. should we ever need it.
That being said, we haven't had our match yet. So, I can't speak on what it will be like to have two social workers instead of one. I don't think we'll mind it though. It's nice to have an advocate that feel like they are our advocate AND the child's advocate.

Could I ask which agencies you are considering? If you PM me I could tell you more about the one I am hoping to utilize (I thought I read somewhere on the forum that opinions about specific agencies were discouraged unless discussed via PM, though I may have misunderstood).
I am also looking for a single child. I am open to any race but keep going back and forth on which ages I wish to foster. I suppose the upcoming meeting with the agency I chose may help me to decide. Are you open to adopting a special needs child? I may be wrong on this, but from what I understand so far, if you accept special needs kids you likely get faster placement and more financial assistance (as their greater needs make them arguably more expensive to foster/ adopt).
I hope I helped!
