OK, here's the deal. I stumbled across the CA Birth Index and found that my name doesn't exist in the year 1959 when I was born. Nor are there any matches of babies born in any year with the combination of my dad's last name and my mom's maiden name. Given this info I would presume the chance is pretty high I was adopted, correct?
Additionally, I went to LA County back in the 1970's to get a copy of my birth certificate. Guess what? Nothing found -- nor did the hospital have one. I did finally get one from the state and thought nothing about it -- until now.
In addition to making a request to the state for non-identifying information (if I am adopted), what else should I do and where should I start? I was an only child and have no siblings, my parents and grandparents are dead, I have no aunts, uncles, cousins, friends of parents, etc., to ask and I have no family of my own.
Finally, on the date of my birth in LA County there were nine births listed in the birth index where the baby had no first name listed. Are the odds pretty high I'm actually one of those births?
I feel kind of like I don't exist. What should I do first?
