Does someone knows if it is really required to have up to 30 hours of training in a face-to-face setting with a trainer?
Wow, it is getting so complicated now. I do think it is a good idea to have training done before adoption, but it makes it so much more complicated for some families to do even more travel now than just the 3 trips to Russia.

Yes, unfortunately it is a mandatory new requirement, and it has to occur before your Court date (they will not give you a Court date until you complete the course).
I recently took this face-to-face course (3 days course!) and I totally agree with you... it is a further expense that I would have rather spent in something else during this process (maybe for the baby homes). I had to travel as well.

We just finished the 3 day course. It was actually more enjoyable than we had anticipated. The content was informative, and it was nice to have DH hear certain things regarding attachment, etc. from someone other than me! Now the cost and associated travel we could have done without, but it is what it is.
A suggestion for saving $$$...I used one of those "name your price" websites for the hotel once I knew which area of town we'd need to be in, and scored a nice room for a LOT less! Every little bit helps!
Good luck!
Yes, as of November 1st, many areas of Russian are requiring the training. It is usually 30hrs, can be as much as 80. The travel is definately a hassle. As more adoption professionals get certified to teach the class, the training should be offerred in more locations more often in 2013. We offer the training monthly in the Atlanta area and also travel to other U.S. cities when possible.
