hi everyone, this is my first post. My husband & I are located in Ct.
We start PRIDE classes next week. ( Thursday )
I am very uneducated with this process. We would like a girl age 9-15 .Foster/adoption.
We have filled out out all paperwork/ background checks etc. A social worker has been here once a few months ago to do a walk through.
After the pride classes what happens next?
This may sound like dumb question but here goes.. how does choosing a child work ? Or is the child chosen for you ? I have not been told anything .
This whole process seems to be very slow LOL.
hope I can get some answers. :)
looking forward to getting to know my way around this board
First and foremost welcome to the boards and welcome to the crazy roller coaster. I can't help you much wiht Ct. specific answers but I can try and answer general questions. After pride classes usually a homestudy interview is scheduled. It's usually a 2-3 part interview where SW comes out and speaks to you and your husband seperately and together. They also do the final walk thru of your home and will let you know if any thing needs to be repaired or if you are missing anything such as child locks etc.
Choosing a child...well basically you should receive a questionaire type form (or at least we did being a fost/adopt home) where you can check off wants, desires, and different types of behavior or medical conditions you are open to deal with. You also check gender, age range, race etc.
Again this may vary state to state county to county.
Based off the information you give that is how you are potentially matched with a child. Also remember the more open and flexible you are the better your chances are the more restrictive you are you may be in for a longer wait.
Will you be fostering with the hope of adopting or are you holding out for just an adoptive (fost/adopt) placement? How many children do you have space for? You can PM if you wanna talk or have anymore questions.

Countrygirl how is it going in your Pride Classes?
Hi, we had our 1st class last week , we have our second class tonight . Last week's class was very informal , we had to fill out a questionnaire , then we discussed the correct answers ..( I only missed one ) :) We were given the big Pride binder to take home with so much info , but was told we didn't need to read it cover to cover ? We also got to ask questions any time we wanted , which was great ." for example " I brought up the topic of a teen girl accusing my husband or any Foster father of sexual abuse ( which no way would this be true ) and how often that situation occurs and how to handle it to avoid setting up a a potential situation . The class was told, for the opposite sex parent of the child to Never be with the child alone until there is a trust built.
It is a very small class 2 singles and my hubby & myself which is very nice for one on one time .
Looking forward to tonight's class and then we have another Sat. morning .
I know this thread is old, sorry, I've been digging through threads trying to prepare for my upcoming classes. Hope everything went smoothly. Glad to see you had a small class, I hope that we get that lucky (though I suppose it is sad that there aren't many interested)
