I have a 13yo BS (Snurf) and a 4yo STBAS (Mickey). Both have trachs so both have private nurses. Yesterday we had that big snow storm come through so my husband (UberGeek) and I were both off work and I told the nurses to just stay home and safe. One of my worries with the boys been so far apart in age is that they may not bond. It doesn't help that Snurf has been an only child and somewhat isolated because of the medical issues. He doesn't really know how to play with other kids. The other issue is that Mickey is so used to always having an adult around that he gravitates to adults and HATES it when one isn't sitting right next to him at all times.
So, yesterday we played in the snow and just basically hung out. Toward evening we were all sort of doing our own things, I looked over to where Micky had been playing (I was working on getting him to play independently with me in site but not right next to him) and he wasn't there any more. Then I suddenly realized it was quiet. WAY too quiet. I walked around the first floor and all I found was UberGeek asleep in the recliner. So I went upstairs and found both boys sitting in the middle of my bed with my laptop, playing games. I guess I could have been mad that they snuck off and grabbed the laptop without permission, but it was just so cute. Mickey had grabbed Snurf and dragged him upstairs so that he didn't have to play alone. So I laid down with them and watched Mickey and Snurf work together playing the computer games.
After that they moved on to taking rides on the rolling office chair in the kitchen, having a snack and then playing "water band" with all of the dishes in the sink. All of this was initiated by them, I just watched to make sure nothing got out of hand. They had a blast. Snurf can't wait to get home from school today so he can be a big brother again. *cheer*
