Hello-my husband and I live in Ohio. My husband has a daughter in Texas. Supposedly his daughter's step dad just adopted her. Bio mom thought it would be best. (she moved to Texas while pregnant and My husband didn't know she was his until a couple years ago). Any how, the date of the finalization was February 25. We cannot stop child support until Ohio receives the adoption record (they issued the child support order since the child was conceived here). DH texted Bio mom asking if the adoption was final and she was very unfriendly towards him- not sure why. She wanted this. She made a comment stating she could not send a document she didn't have yet. This was like two days ago. Then I just find out today from our child support case worker that Texas Child Support people sent her a request for the record (I suppose so they could forward to our case worker in Ohio). So it's been a month since the final court date and she says she still doesn't have the document yet. So my question is- Is this normal? Is she likely lying or do you not get your adoption record for a while after court date? I like to give people the benefit of the doubt but she hasn't been very forthcoming with information during this process even though my husband didn't give her a hard way to go ever. We're afraid she's trying to milk the child support as long as possible. It was almost two and a half years for the adoption to happen after she asked my husband permission for her husband to adopt the child. We unfortunately aren't privy to any information ourselves. If anyone has any advice or experience, I'd appreciate it! Thanks
