Hi All,
I have never posted in a forum before but my curiosity/anxiety is getting the best of me. Ha! My husband and I have completed all classes, fingerprinting, home studies, etc. We are just waiting to get our license in the mail so we can start taking placements. The licensing working wouldn't explain how long the process takes or next steps. Any ideas on a timeline to expect? We have no kids of our own and it feels like torture to be told to prepare a room but not have any idea if it's going to sit empty for weeks or months. TIA.
I'm in Tx now but grew up in Merrimack! So hi my fellow New Englander lol! It didn't take us long once everything was submitted. But I understand the waiting is hard!

I'm a southern transplant, too. We moved to MA from AL 2 years ago and are waiting on our worker to finish writing our home study. I would email or call your licensing worker to check in every 2 weeks. That's what we do!

Hi & Welcome , I'm in Ct and we are also waiting & waiting. Do you know if they have received your fingerprints and background check back yet ?
We had our prints taken in Nov . they were returned to the social worker in March. We had been told that was all they were waiting for .. ok so all is returned , we did our classes etc. we are still waiting . When I emailed our worker she said all information was sent to DCF so they could enter it in their system . Then they proceed with matching . I was finally told DCF can take up to 6 weeks to get everything done . It might be different in NH. and what age child you are wanting . If it's a younger child -up to 7yrs old , I believe your dealing directly with DCF . If its a teen ( that's what we asked for ) we also have an empty nest . There is a different branch we deal with that is affiliated with DCF.
So if all goes according to what the worker said , a child will be placed with us sometime in the next 3 weeks hopefully .
( yes we have been waiting 3 weeks already.) I truly wish the social worker would explain things a bit more clear . We were under the impression all they were waiting for was the prints and background checks to come back, they failed to tell us it can be up to an additional 6 weeks DCF to process it . :grr: .. so we wait and wait .
I understand they want to come as close as possible to getting the match right to make it work for the child and the foster parents.

Small world! We moved from Dallas to New England. We love it here but miss good Mexican food.
I'm also in southern NH. We aren't licensed yet (we finished classes but put the rest of the process on hold since we are moving to another county). I can't comment on how long the wait for your license will be, but I know I was talking to a group of FP's from the Seacoast district at an event this weekend and all of them said they waited about 4 months from when they were licensed until when their first placement call came. So I'm planning on a several month wait once we get to that point (and if it happens sooner it'd be wonderful!). I'm not sure what district you are in. I know that the Rochester District is the busiest in the state so things tend to be sped up there since they really need the homes. The Manchester area is also quite busy from what I hear. I hope that your license comes soon and your wait is a quick one! Good luck!

Dreamlies- Small world. We moved to NH two years ago from Dallas. We love it up here, except for the lack of good Mexican food. :) It's the weirdest thing-everywhere we go we meet other Texans who have recently moved to NH. Nice to get a bit of home every now and then.

Thanks Bamamommy-I can already tell it's going to take a lot of follow up on a regular basis. That's ok-it will be worth it in the end. Good luck to you!

Thanks Hope! It's nice to know there are other newbies nearby as we start this journey. Sounds like you got good feedback this weekend. I am not sure if I should share which DCYF office I am working with or not..but we are in a central location and were told we would be used by two local offices and should expect to be used a lot. That's why I figured we won't wait long for a placement once we get the license.

Countrygirl-wow, you guys have been waiting for a while. Sounds like you are close to getting a placement though-that's wonderful! We started the process in mid January and had our final home study visit last week. Fingerprints and background checks are back. Just waiting for licensing worker to write up our home-study and submit it. Glad you finally found out that DCYF in your area has 6 weeks to get paperwork in order. Our worker wouldn't tell us basic info like that; not sure why. We weren't asking when we would get a placement-but how long the state has to complete their part of the paperwork. Oh well...guess knowing that isn't going to speed the process up, right? Good luck!
