I am sure these questions have been asked a million times, but I will go ahead and ask again. I hope I'm not being annoying. I have had the dream of adopting a deaf child for years, and after doing some research, I have found that China seems to have quite a few on various photolistings. I was just wondering if anyone has any idea of an estimate on how much I could expect to pay to adopt a child with special needs (deafness) from China? Also, I have seen several requests for agency recommendations but those need to be PM'd so I can't see the answers! So, I am also asking if anyone has agency recommendations. Thanks!

hey there!
I actually volunteer at an agency that specializes in Chinese Adoption and I know that they encourage special needs adoption. The agency itself is in Austin Texas but it works with families from all over the country. The agency is called Great Wall of China Adoption. I have links I can give you to it's main website, Facebook, and Twitter. I would recommend you call in and speak with the staff about your inquiry, they're incredibly helpful and I think they'll do well with helping you find exactly what you're looking for! Best of luck!

Thank you so much for your help. After a lot of thought, I have decided if we do go ahead with this (as I would love to do), it will be at least a year from now. I would love to be able to have all the funds in place before adopting so we don't have any debt, and I just got a new job that will make that possible with 2 years of work. Approximately how long from start to finish does it take to adopt a special needs waiting child from China?
At this time, some people are bringing a child with special needs home within a year, although each situation is different. Do be aware, however, that change happens frequently in adoption. There is no guarantee that the special needs program will be the same as it is today, with regard to time frames, fees, eligible U.S. agencies, or anything else. The best thing to do, if you are not currently ready to adopt, is to stay on this board and others related to China adoptions, to look at the U.S. State Department website at adoption.state.gov from time to time, to read agency websites, and so on.

Whether if you decide to start now or later, many places of employment offer Adoption Reimbursement. DHs employer gave us $3,000 and mine gave us $5,000. Adoption reimbursement is paid after the adoption is finalized, but it helped a lot. Also, if you are in the U.S., there's an adoption tax credit which is still in effect. It's currently around $12,000 (I don't have the total off hand), again though, it's a credit given to you after the adoption takes place. If you're adopting internationally, it would reimburse for actual expenses regardless of SN or NSN. If you're adopting domestically, and the child has SN, the tax credit is not based on expenses, but rather you're given the entire credit regardless of how much you spend. When we adopted our DD back in 2006, from China, between the tax credit and both employer adoption reimbursements, we ended up getting everything we spent, back, including the money we spent for the 2 weeks required by China to stay in the country while processing the adoption. Save all receipts when you start your adoption process, you'll need them for any reimbursements or credits.
