Hi all! I finally took the step of filling out all the paperwork to see if I can find either of my birthparents and/or my siblings. I was born in Chicago Illinois. I certainly don't expect anything quick, but can anyone give me an idea of how soon I might hear back assuming my birthparent(s) have authorized contact? What if they have died, will I hear back soon? Thanks!
Nervous and anxious at the same time :woohoo:

Spike, Illinois changed the laws - just order your Original Birth Certificate - you have that right and shame on the system if they took your money to do a search and request permission - without telling you that. Spike,If the paperwork you filled out is not for your OBC, then I would do as Dickons suggests and fill out that paperwork and send it in ASAP.By law, we are now allowed to request our OBCs. However, the law allows our b-parents to redact their information from the OBC, if they request it. (Usually, only our b-mothers' names are on the OBCs.)So, if your mother is contacted before you get your OBC request into the state, she may learn about the law change and decide to be one of the few mothers who choose to redact her information from the OBC. Get your OBC request in now, so you have the best chance of at least learning your b-mother's name.
