I feel so defeated. We had to shock our well because our first sample did not pass. We waited two weeks, submitted a sample, and now the lab claims we have both strains of bacteria not just total coliform. We are going to shock our well AGAIN, but if anyone can offer any advice on this it would be greatly appreciated. Can we be approved if our well doesn't pass??
Are you removing the little screen thing from the faucet and bleaching the whole faucet - including as far inside as you can with a spray bottle - before taking the sample? Also, are you putting the sample on ice until you get to the lab?

Take the sample at the pump right over the well pit. Let it run for quite a while, too. And don't wait two weeks. Google how to shock it (you probably already did).
Of course, if your levels are really hi, you might want a well guy to come out. If they're just borderline probably just shocking it again and taking the sample closer to the well will work.
I've seen in my state that one can sign a paper promising to serve only bottled water, and they can pass you, but I think that's up to the licensing worker's discretion.
I'd say spend another $10 on bleach and $5 in gas to get the sample brought in. Also -- find out when the sample goes to the lab -- you don't want it sitting around all day just growing. Collect your sample, bring it in, all as close to the samples going to the lab as possible.
Hope this is helpful and good luck.
We did remove the screen from the sink. I used rubbing alcohol not bleach because I was worried about residual bleach showing up in the sample. Does that matter? What state do you live in that they allowed you to sign a form? Thank you!
Not Pennsylvania. Maybe you can go thru the rules and regs online and find out. I think you should be able to get it to pass, though.
We have been given some pointers through the adoption agency and the county. We are also checking into a UV light to correct the problem. Anyone have any experience with them?

Did you get it resolved? We had issues with ours as well and we just signed a waiver saying we would only use bottled drinking water. We are in Ohio
