Hello all - I've been on these boards for the past week or so just trying to glean some info on foster/adoption while we wait to go to our orientation this Wednesday. I have a few questions that maybe a few of you would be able to help me out with:
1. I've noticed that people have said that they used an agency and if they were having issues with one particular agency, to use a different one. Is there another way to foster/adopt in NJ other than going through DYFS? Sorry if this is a ridiculous question. We are well schooled on international adoption (haven't yet adopted, still waiting) but don't know much at all about domestic fostering to adopt.
2. I was wondering if there is a list of the acronyms used on this board that I can refer to while I'm learning the lingo. Many of the posts I've read have abbreviations that I can't figure out and I'd love to be able to understand what they're writing about lol.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide!
Thank you smarty. I have been perplexed by the abbreviations as well.
Looking forward to hearing responses to question #1.

You would really have to ask someone from your state but in our state (KS) the foster care system is run by private agencies. The state is the one who deems children "in need of care" but then they are given to the agency to supervise. I think it is vastly different in all states but that is why people talk about agency switching being an option.
