Hi everyone. I've been reading for a little while, first post. I've read a bit about respite foster care, and I'm wondering if that's an option in California, specifically San Francisco? Does anyone know of anyone being licensed for respite-only, or being able to only take very short term placements? If so, please tell me everything you know about it!I am getting closer and closer to being emotionally and financially ready to fost-adopt, but I'm still single! I don't really want to be a single parent because I'm only 29 and hoping to find a partner, and I know it's difficult/complicated for single parents to date. On the other hand, while there's room in my apartment, schedule, and heart to care for a baby/toddler, I hate to leave that space empty on an ongoing basis for an unknown amount of time when I know San Francisco has a shortage of foster homes. I'm not ready for a commitment of an uncertain length, but I think I could care for a child for up to a few weeks at a time (with a little time in between) without severely diminishing my ability to date. Is that a reasonable line of thought, or should I just wait?
