Hi everyone. I've been reading for a little while, first post. I've read a bit about respite foster care, and I'm wondering if that's an option in California, specifically San Francisco? Does anyone know of anyone being licensed for respite-only, or being able to only take very short term placements? If so, please tell me everything you know about it!
I am getting closer and closer to being emotionally and financially ready to fost-adopt, but I'm still single! I don't really want to be a single parent because I'm only 29 and hoping to find a partner, and I know it's difficult/complicated for single parents to date. On the other hand, while there's room in my apartment, schedule, and heart to care for a baby/toddler, I hate to leave that space empty on an ongoing basis for an unknown amount of time when I know San Francisco has a shortage of foster homes. I'm not ready for a commitment of an uncertain length, but I think I could care for a child for up to a few weeks at a time (with a little time in between) without severely diminishing my ability to date. Is that a reasonable line of thought, or should I just wait?
