We're are a licensed foster home with interest in a low risk foster to adopt placement of any age. We've been licensed for quite a while without getting any real placement options.
We started to get antsy and began inquiring about photo listings for kiddos within our agency. The few that we have asked about, we've gotten a lot of info on up front and been given the option of doing respite for the weekend or meeting the kiddo at an agency function before proceeding. Due to circumstances outside of our control, nothing has ever progressed with any child.
We recently put in an inquiry on a teen girl that is in state, but placed with a different agency. We were provided a one page profile that says very little, but eludes to some significant emotional issues that we may or may not be up for. Overall, it seems like she may be a very good match for us. Her agency has very different policies regarding what happens next though. They will not give us anymore info at all until we are selected through best interest staffing. Then we can read her file and (per her worker) she could move right in. If we wanted to do a trial meeting first, we could, but it would be after BIS.
For us, this seems like way too much of a commitment to make based on such little info, but I know from reading on here, that a lot of adoptions proceed that way. I just think it is totally unfair to a teenager to put them through that when we need some questions answered and would like to see that we are a good fit for her first. It's just totally crazy to me that an agency would be prepared to move a teen into a permanent home based on paperwork alone.
Any thoughts or input from others who have gone this route? I'm thinking that we will likely be sticking to kiddos within our agency so that we don't have to deal with such an unknown, which is a shame because I think there is potential with this girl. Maybe some one here can help me see it differently or change my mind!

I would just suggest that you make it clear to the case worker that you will need more info before moving forward on your part. They may have a staffing and choose three or more families that are potential placements and if you are one of those families then give you more info. Every county and agency works these things differently. But I wouldn't commit to it with out more information, that's for sure!!!
