Has anyone filed for Per Facto?
What does that consist of?
I had this foster child since he was 2 weeks old. He is now 19 months old. He is special needs and slightly behind in his milestones.
:thanks:
Since he's been in your care for 19months, you can file to be a Defacto parent.
Here's a link that provides more info:

they just spoke about this in our parenting class last week. They said that it's no easy course to choose to file defacto and it can also cost $4000-$6000....what did you end up choosing to do?

You can file once a child has been in the home for 6 months. You can get the form online or from your CSW. Once filled out you send it out and from my understanding it doesn't cost anything. I could be wrong but I was told it was free. We were going to file for our first placement but decided against it at the last minute for personal reasons. We went through the steps above and there were no cost involved. Good luck.
Sorry, I have not written on this for awhile. Well, I did apply for it, I got denied because the father got him back. I think now his case is over.
But, I do have another foster child that is 3 years old and I will do the same thing. My social worker will give me the paper work to sign, and I will write a one page summary on how I am taking care of this child. Then she would send it to court. Then the court will want you to attend the court for the De-facto. Then they will approve it or deny it.
On this case for this 3 year old, he might be going through adoption, but I am not holding my breath yet. But, if he does go into the adoption area, yes, I will be adopting him. :happydance:
