Hello everyone!
I have spent a lot of time on her reading people posts and stories as well as reading other blogs...
I thought it was about time that I register for an account and introduce myself.
I have been married to a wonderful man for almost 7 years. We live in Central California in a small agricultural town. I am a proud step "Momster" to three beautiful girls ages 18, 15 and 12.
My husband and I have always wanted to do foster care but we were going to wait for our kids to be in jr high and high school... well after trying for over 5 years to have children it turns out we "most likely" cannot have (more) kids of our own.
So we prayed long and hard and talked to our girls and together as a family we have decided to go ahead with opening out home and hearts to Foster Children.
We have decided to go with a great local agency that a few couples from our church use.
So far we have completed the following:
All required PRIDE classes
Background checks
Medical paperwork
Notified our landlord
Provided references
Preliminary home inspection
Pet records
Now we just need to finish the following:
CPR & First Aid Classes
Hubby's TB test
As well as purchase the following:
Carseats
Cribs (2)
Fire extinguisher
Bottles, sippy cups, childrens plates & utensils
New vacuum cleaner (not required but is necessary)
Do the following to our house:
Move 12 & 15 DD into back guest bedroom (paint this bedroom)
Set up toddler bed & crib in front bedroom.
Move changing table into front bedroom
Move couch out of playroom
Set up 2nd crib in Master
So it still feels like a ways from finishing everything but it is just a matter of getting these done. I was hoping to get these done by the 1st of the year however our SW just called and said they are getting a lot more calls recently and was wondering if we could get everything done this month? How could I say no? so now I am a little stressed and trying to figure out how to get everything done both time wise and budget wise...
Congrats and Welcome.
Since you need to get everything setup in the next month, here 's some suggestions:
-Borrow as much as possible- Ask friends if you can borrow a crib and buy new mattresses only. Luckily I had access to 4 cribs which I am using 2. Since they are drop front cribs, I updated them.
-Carseats. Borrow if possible to start out as long as they are not expired, they are good. Also if you a member of Costco, they have carseats as well.
-Bottles, sippy cups, etc. I literally only purchased the bare min and purchased extra when we got our first placement.
Hang in there and enjoy life before you get on the rollercoaster:)

Thank you!
Hubby surprised me last night and came home with a new fire extinguisher! Yay for one more thing to check off!
We have slowly been getting items from friends and family members such as clothes, bouncers, pack n play's and TWO strollers! So it has been such a blessing so far!
Now we just HAVE to get the car seats, bottles, Childrens plates/utensils & crib as our agency requires them before we will pass...
Thankfully I think I found another foster parent in a neighboring town who has two carseats she is willing to give to us
Plus I think I found a mini crib for sale on craigslist for only $40 that I am hoping to get this weekend!

That's great.
For bottles and children plates/utensils, WalMart is a great option to start out. I know you can probably pick up everything for around $20.
Woot same boat as you we have gotten things little by little went garage hunting got some nice stuff even a toddler kitchen brand new play food and all. I still don't have crib or toddler bed but we do have a kitchenette for them to play and books lots of books love having half priced books around the corner
