I had always thought that the "shape up" cut where you trim around the hairline was a style. But I got informed last week that you have to train black hair with shape ups or the hairline will get all wild and nasty when the kids get older. True?

I don't think you can train hair- it's going to grow out of the follicles regardless of where they are. a shapeup keeps sharp neat edges on the hairstyle

This is what I thought. I cut my son's hair about every 2 weeks but I like his natural hair line. It isn't messy in my opinion. I thought maybe this is a wives tail?
