Hi. I'm new here, so please forgive me if this is posted in the wrong forum.
My husband and I live in L.A. We have two bio kids and one foster. Our foster child arrived in our home in November. He was 6 months old and had been neglected and starved and did not have good attachments, but was otherwise in good health. He has 7 older siblings who had been TPR'd and were adopted by relatives, but relatives were out of space to take him. I believe there are other relatives who would take the baby, but most of the family is undocumented so they refuse to talk to DCFS. Birth mom is also estranged from them. Birth dad is unknown.
Birth mom is a really great person and I love her to pieces, but we have a tense relationship. She only makes about 40% of her visits and is inconsistent with meeting her case plan. She requested visits be moved near her and when they were moved she made a bunch of them in a row, then dropped off the radar for a month before resuming again. She very rarely makes both visits in a week - usually it's one or nothing. Reunification services were terminated in January as a result and TPR was set in May - but had to be moved back to June because of a due process error.
We are now 1.5 months off TPR and suddenly birth mom found out she is pregnant.
Has anyone ever experienced this before? Can this pregnancy effect TPR?
In my state pregnancy wouldn't affect TPR, but you might be called in 9 months to take in baby's sibling!

Here they delay TPR til the baby is born & piggyback the baby onto the older kids case. They don't offer a new plan. It's one of the few times you actually get to adopt a baby under 6 months old.
We're in LA County and we and other FP I know are in a similar situation. TPR will not be delayed. The new baby will be his/her own case if the child comes into Care. Only children that are red flagged and/or test positive are automatically detained @ birth. Regardless of parents previous TPRs, the baby will go home unless red flag or tested positive. Then once baby comes into Care, new case is opened. Depending on BioParents previous cases, new child could be automatic TPR or Case Plan given.
In our case, we knew that a new baby was going to be born. However, we didn't know when. We also didn't expect baby to be detained @ birth because BioMom has always been allow to take child home. Our youngest was her first detained. Our older two are currently 2 months away from their TPR trial while we are waiting to find out if baby will be fast tracked to be included w/ his siblings or BioParents will be given a CasePlan for possible RU.
Definitely a frustrating process but I understand that the State wants to give BioParents every opportunity to parent their children successfully if possible.

Lotusmama, thank you! That's very helpful!
Can you expand on what "red flagging" is? I've never heard the caseworker talk about that! Our foster son is a fast-track, but I believe the other siblings were not although I'm not positive. For sure, at least two or three of them were detained at birth, but again I don't really know why.

Our STBAS and his 2 brothers were all severed while bio was known to be pregnant. She went off the radar and when they found her and the baby a few months old now they did not remove right away. It has been nearly a month and all I know is they are still investigating and lookign into possible home services. You would think that having 3 kids rights recently severed would matter but things don't always work out like it seems they should. I doubt it will interfer with severence in your case. Good luck!
Red Flagging is notifying all the local hospitals to detain child regardless is child is born health or drug free. Chances are the child tested positive for drugs so they were detained.
And Fast Tracking doesn't always happen even though BioParents may have lost multiple children. I know in our case, we are waiting to see if our youngest will be fast tracked.

Yeah, the caseworker mentioned that the bios' history doesn't always play into decisions about detaining future children and how to lay out their respective cases. I understand why, but I'm not certain I really agree with that policy.

No advice...... Just hugs. We're wondering if new sibling to our first 3 will come into care..... And if we would be called if so.
