Wanting openness but needing a break from contact?

TPR was just granted last month. I told bio mom to expect a long break from direct contact (no phone calls/visits) for a year. Anyone take a deliberate break from bios before having post-adoption contact? How long?? Did you do any pic updates/phone calls? What let you know kids were ready for contact again?
