I have a three year old who is going to start PreK in the fall. She was exposed to all sorts of drugs before birth and then severely neglected for two years. She is developmentally delayed, but kinetically fine.
But can they handle her at school? She's already been kicked out of two preschools/daycares. She will be joining a mixed special ed class of about 10 kids, there is also a little boy with down syndrome in her class.
Here's the problem.
1) She doesn't watch television. I know for a fact that these kids watch at least a movie a day*.
2) She curses. Especially to other little kids, especially if they do something she doesn't understand. She will teach all the kids all the words. She NEVER curses in front of me.
3) She will throw epic fits, but they will all generally stem from over-stimulation or frustration.
4) She's not potty trained, and will not be in the foreseeable future.
These are all reasons the daycares gave for her dismissal.
I'm hoping that the IEP will allow her to attend only three days a week. But do they even do that?
Any general suggestions? I'm worried they'll just try to punish her for her behavior and she is the sweetest and most loving little girl ever. I don't want them to break her.
*I acknowledge this school isn't the best. But it's literally the only one in my district. I'm not all that concerned about the quality of education for her right now. She doesn't even have the concept of what a color is. But I think she desperately needs socialization with her own age. Which she's not getting anywhere now that daycare is out.
You are a member of the IEP team. Your input is very important. I don't see why three days a week would be a problem for a preschooler. Make sure you help create the behavior plan to avoid excessive punishment. If there is a special ed. teacher teaching or co-teaching the class, he/she should not be shocked by language and should use positive discipline.

I have a nearly 3 year old who's starting preschool (at our district) in the fall as well. We just did the IEP process and she'll be attending full time (4 1/2 days). My kiddo also doesn't watch TV. I dont think our preschool watches tv in general but having a SPD kiddo in a room of (victims) LOL is tough. These schools are designed for children with these behaviors and if she's going in with an IEP like a previous poster said you'll be a part of that. I gave them the full run down on Tiny Tornado (TT) and they agreed that TT will be a handful but that they have a plan in place. It ended quite well for me.
