If any of you guys are licensed through Arrow, can you PM me? Primarily we are concerned about how much the religious aspect plays & what they expect of families on that side! Thanks
I belong to a non-Christian religion, and I am a licensed social worker. I do not approve of the way Arrow practices.
Discrimination is ugly. Just imagine what would happen if an agency had a "race/ethnicity" requirements of foster parents. It is equally unethical of any agency to have any religious requirements of foster families. The Texas minimum standard is here for a reason: It is centered around a child's best interest, that's it. No other agendas.
Discrimination based on religion is further prohibited based in the code of conduct of social workers in Texas:
"(1) A social worker shall not refuse to perform any act or service for which the person is licensed solely on the basis of a client's age, gender, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, or political affiliation."
Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners About the Profession - Code of Conduct
Arrow's social workers can be reported to the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners since they violate the Code of Conduct.
Arrow's practice further violates the paragraphs related to discrimination of the Code of Ethics by the National Association of Social Workers:

Further, I have an issue with the idea that the Arrow may receive non-Christian children into their care while not licensing people who belong to the same non-Christian religion. So e.g. if a Buddhist child comes into Arrow's care, a Buddhist person cannot get licensed to be a foster parent of this child because ... they are Buddhist. That is absurd and very disturbing.
In short, if you care about social work ethics, then please stay away from Arrow. There are plenty of good agencies out there (Texas Mentor, Lutheran Social Services etc.) whose practices conform with social work ethics.

See that's what I think! I understand religious based organizations but to limit the help of children to just Christians is on the fence for is. We've decided on another agency I believe & feel really good about it, I didn't get that feeling from Arrow.
I am excited that you selected an agency and I wish you smooth sailing through the licensing process! :woohoo:
It took me exactly three months to get licensed. I hope things will progress in a timely manner for you, too.
Keep us posted on how things progress. :)
