Which state are you located in? From a practical standpoint, I would suggest keeping your child reasonably close to home, because long distance can be a logistical nightmare.
At the facility where I work, most residents are funded by SSI disability benefits.

You do want to find one as close to your home as you can. Our son was in a residential placement an hour from us. I wouldn't have wanted it much farther because of visits, meetings and family sessions. While recommendations from other people are nice you need to visit and ask questions to see if you like it and see if it will work for your family. we went to visit one that our sons case manager recommended and we absolutely hated it. My husband walked out and said he isn't going there. You will know if you think it is the right place or not.
As far as paying for it we didn't have to worry because his medical assistance that was part of his adoption subsidy paid for it for us.
