Hi All
I am feeling a little discouraged. My husband and I were officially licensed 6 months ago to be foster adopt in South Carolina. We have been applying on AdoptUsKids as well.
South Carolina has been horrible. You send your home study and when you follow up a couple of months later they say, "oh nothing has been done yet". (thats if they respond to your inquiry)
We have been considered for a boy in Texas. We were told we were one of 3 families being reviewed, but we werent selected.
So many times you inquire and hear nothing back.
Its so frustrating ...I wish there was some sort of communication that happened instead of being in the dark all the time.
We are interested in 2-12 and have even inquired about older children as well.
I know 6 months isn't long to wait, but after waiting 7 months to get certified, it is just frustrating.
Everyone keeps trying to talk us into fostering, but we really want to adopt
Yes it can be very frustrating.
One bit of advice that helped me when I was going through this - the priority is helping the kids currently in the system, or working with families to avert the system
While there are people assigned to get new homes processed, they are (too) often diverted to deal with shorter term issues.
Because of this distraction, not only do things move slowly, but its very easy to temporarily lose paperwork
It looks like you are awaiting someone to review your home study? Have they given you an estimated time before it'll be processed? it might be worth asking. That way, when they miss the deadline, you can call and ask for the revised update
if the miss 2 updates, you would be within your rights to ask for a supervisor. It might be worth asking if doing str8 foster would expedite your process
As for adoptuskids, I've not heard great reviews. They do great work, but.. because the kids are public and can be sent anywhere, its pretty unlikely you'll grow your family this way
hang in there. it's so worth it in the end
