We got our son when he was 5 weeks old ... how much of an impact did those first 5 weeks have on him? If he was abused and neglected, is he scarred for life? I'm interested to know from any professionals out there how strong the effects of the first few weeks are on an infant's life. I know they're resilient and lots of positives can help soften the harm of the negatives. But what else can you tell me?
Hi,
I guess the most important thing to do in the first weeks is to bond with the baby. Bonding is essential for a baby.
scientists say that the strong ties between parents and their child provide the baby's first model for intimate relationships and foster a sense of security and positive self-esteem. And parents' responsiveness to an infant's signals can affect the child's social and cognitive development.
