I am an almost 62 year old adoptee (born 4-19-1955) who has petitioned the court to open my sealed adoption records in Carrollton, GA. The last update that I got said that the petition had been filed and had been sent to the judge and they clerk of court's office was awaiting his order. Both of my adoptive parents are deceased, but I don't know if that will make any difference or not. I am afraid to get my hopes up after reading so much on the internet about unsealing records. I don't really know what to expect. I know absolutely nothing about my birth parents. I was adopted right from the hospital after birth in a private adoption handled by a lawyer. I don't have any major medical issues that require the records. I just feel like a half of a person. There is this half that was raised by my wonderful adoptive parents and helped me be the person that I am today and then there is this other half that I know nothing about. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the judge will see that my adoptive parents would be quite old if they are still living and take that into consideration.
It has now been almost 9 weeks since my petition was sent to the judge and I have had no word at all. Is this normal? Does it take this long to at least get some word. From everything I have read I am not getting my hopes up that he will open the records, but some kind of word would be nice. What is anyone else's experience?

That does seem like an awfully long time. It can't hurt to call the county clerk's office and ask about the status on your petition. It's possible it was misplaced or something - and if it wasn't, maybe they can give you an idea of what sort of time frame to expect to hear back in.
