I was wondering if you needed t have a home study before you take the foster parent classes? To me, the home study is the most stressful part so I wanted to do it last or after I took the classes. I didn't see any adotpion classes or only foster parent classes in my county. Does that mean one can only become a foster parent, not an adoptive parent via foster care system in my state?
Also, can you only become a foster parent/adopt from an agency in the county you live? What I mean is if there's an agency in another nearby county that has children available, could you become foster or adoptive parent of a child staying there? Does one choose the child and/or meet with children to see who you have the best chemistry with or is a child randomly assigned to you?

Good morning!
We are in Virginia so things might depend on the state you live in. We started going through our county to get started on the process and you did have to take the classes first. It's a really tell all if you really want to continue with foster care/adopt. Any who the county didn't have classes for awhile and couldn't give us a date so we went privately to foster to adopt. We were matched in April and have had 2 visits with our little angel! It was the best decision we could have made. The support we get from our agency is fantastic and its a forever thing with them. In 6 years if we are struggling with DD we can call them up and they will set up anything we need to help us. Hope this helps.

Did you have a home study, yet? And you didn't take the classes, yet? Do you have to take the classes?
Your wrote "...couldn't give us a date so we went privately to foster to adopt." Do you mean you visited a foster choldren center and told them you wanted to adopt, which bypasses working with the county? What month did you visit since you wrote they matched you with a baby in April. Congrats!:)
