We are adoptive parents to one child adopted internationally at age 3 now almost 6 years old. We would like to expand our family with an additional child 4-8 years or older. Our age is among the reasons we would prefer a bit older child. We feel like our child would do best with a child the same age or older. But we are not sure where to start. ( Our prior program doesn't typically place out of birth order so going back to the same program/country seems unlikely. We have looked into a few other international options but that is not our focus for this post). Where do you start for domestic adoption of a older child when your local state says 'we don't have a need for adoptive parents for that age range'?? What agencies are actually helpful in us find children waiting for a family that we would best be able to parent and support?? I have not come across any place that seems to fit we are in the MD/VA area if that makes a difference. HELP please!

Hi molly, have you looked into adopting through foster care (foster to adopt)? There is such a huge need! We are from pennsylvania and enjoying working through our agency called Adelphoi but unsure if they have anything local to you.
