Help please. My adoptive dad passed away in March of 2000 and he left all of his belongings to my adoptive mom. My adoptive mom GAVE the house away to some of her family members without letting me know. I just found out a couple weeks ago that it had taken place in November of 2000. Is there any laws stating that an adoptive child has a right to part of the house? I thought that an adoptive child couldn't be left out. I am NOT trying to sound greedy at all. I am just trying to find out if there is anything that I can do. My adoptive mom is still alive but because she signed the house over in front of a lawyer, there is nothing she can do. I don't want the house any more because of too many memories including me finding my adoptive dad passed away on the front porch. I would appreciate any help that anyone could give me on this. Thank you very much.
I don't know what state you live in so I couldn't tell you how the
law works when some one in the family dies and how thee assets
are didstrub. In my state when my adopted Dad died my adopted
Mom automatically got the house we all lived in. Then when my
adopted Mom died in her house the day I was visiting her. She
had no will I had to get a lawyer and the house went thru probate it took about a year, and being that I was her only child
I in heritate my adopted parents house.

Thelma,
Thanks for replying. Sorry it has taken so long to reply but my husband just had back surgery 2 weeks ago and getting prepared for that was really tough. I am in Mississippi. My dad had a will that gave everything to my mom and she could do as she pleased with anything he had. I thought you couldn't leave an adopted child out of anything but I guess you can. Thanks again for replying and again I am sorry it took so long to get back. May God bless you.
