Hi I am an LDS birth mother and I have a question... How does this whole thing work out in heaven?? I mean.. If I am from one tribe will my son be form that same tribe? Or is it dependent on the birth father?? Or perhaps the Adoptive parents?? I guess this whole question came up when I was reading a book about the Polynesians being Nephites. I started to wonder about that. I am really quite ignorant to this whole thing. Maybe I should not even worry about it. In any case if there are any LDS people who can answer that question. I always have silly questions like that.
Another question...
How do all of the Adopted parents think about the rules that LDSFS have?? I have been told that they are going to change soon and am interested in how many soon to be parents would like to have more of an open adoption??
Would love to hear your thoughts.

I was adopted 29 odd years ago, the church and my family went so far as to have a doctor sign off that my mother and father were the ones actually in the delivery room, this is most interesting as my mother had a hysterectomy(sp) 1 1/2 years before I was born. They never planned on telling me because the church apparently (or at least the ward we grew up in) discouraged it. When I was 12 I overheard my mother talking to a friend and heard the friend ask what I thought of being adopted and knowing that I did not have the desease issue my father does (Narcolepsy) Well my mothers comment was "she doesn't know and never will know" It never bothered me until my mother started losing her mind and begining the first stages of alzheimers. I finally confronted her about it 2 years ago. She still totally denied it until finally she got so mad she called everyone in the family aunts uncles brothers sisters old friends in the ward demanding to know who had told me. She still to this day refuses to believe that I heard it from her.
As a 29yoa person, dealing with issues of not being able to have children biologically (we've been unsucessful for 3 years) I would really like to know who my birth parents are and what type of medical issues I face in the past. I think that would be one of the most important things to find out from a birth mother, is the family medical history.

I gave birth to a wonderful Samoan baby about 15 years ago. (I am caucasian) My husband (also caucasian) adopted him and we were sealed. I am very excited for him to get his Patriarchial Blessing so we can see what tribe he is from. It will be interesting. But all of the tribes came from the same father any way.:D
Hello, it is my understanding that tribal differences can vary even within an average family with no adoptive members. Your tribe does not depend on the mother or father, it is on the individual. For instance, within the same family, one sibling could be from Ephraim and the other one could be from a different tribe. Hope that helps!

I am all for the changes that are taking place at LDSFS. I believe it is VERY important for an adoptive child to have access to their bfamily information, and vice versa. Not only for medical reasons (which is VERY important), but also for peace of mind, and answers.
As to HOW open an adoption should be...I think that should be determined on a case by case bases, by the bfamily and the afamily.
Thanx for listening,
Stephanie
