I've been reading a little bit about SID, Sensory Integrative Dysfunction, and to me, the symptoms are the same as ADHD. Anybody out there that can really explain the differences?? I mean, I know the definitions are different, but seems like they manifest the same symptoms!
Thanks!
Cathy
There probably are some kids that have similiar manifestations of ADHD and SID, but they can also look quite different. There seem to be so many variations in SID. My daughter is both overresponsive and underresponsive to stimuli. For example, at Easter she couldn't handle touching the grass to pick up the eggs. she hates having anything on her hands. But she is mostly seeking out sensory input. She likes to bang her head on things. she stuffs her mouth when she eats and has trouble swallowing because she doesn't sense the food is there. These kinds of things are associated with SID. In her case she also has ADHD, so she has the typical behaviors that go with that too. Have you read the book THe Out of Sync Child? It is a good resource for understanding SID.
