I am an adoptee with ADHD. Now I am a birthmother of 4 how likely is it for me to have passed that on? Mine is suspected due to the amount of alcohol my birthmother drank while pregnant.
And my brother (who is also adopted) has ADHD and Turrets how likely is it that HE will pass these on to his children?

ADHD does run in the family from what my doctor has told me.I am from a big family and most of my brother had ADHD and there children had it as well.I thought I was lucky and thought my son would not have it but I started seeing signs in him when he was 9 years old.But there is meds out there that really does help.My son takes concerta 1 times a day and it is a release tablet that works all day and he seems like a normal child because he dont space out or stay up all night like some of the pills they use for ADHD does.

Considering some of the new research which links ADHD with allergies, I'd think its based in some of the same genes as allergies.
Yep just like the others said ...my doctor also tells us it is hereditary. My son got it from his father. He is on 32mg Concerda one time a day. It works great. he is above average on all of his school work and he says he feels alot better..that his mind is not spinning anymore..i dont kow mabey thats a 9 year olds way of explaing how it feels. But to answer your question Yes it is hereditary from what my doctor has told us. I also agree on the alergies thing as well but in our case noone in our imediate family has alergies so i dont know if that would be the case or not.
Ok, so of my 4 birthkids, will ALL of them have ADHD or just maybe one or two? Do I always pass this gene on?

While I do believe ADHD can be inherited, I do think that there is a tendency to over diagnosis ADHD and that once it is diagnosed there is a tendency label all the children in the family ADHD. Which means that on the techincal side I don't think its possible to develop a statistical probablity of ADHD inheritance. Plus you'd have to factor in the levels and types of ADHD/ADD (I'm "just" ADD--never been hyper in my lazy life :) ).
