Andrew from Texas

Andrew is a sweet child with a calm personality. He loves attention and being in the company of others. Andrew enjoys verbal and physical interaction, listening to music, listening to the children's shows on the television, musical toys, and enjoying the sunlight on his face. He loves the sound of birds singing and the sound of water (streams, rain, water movement in the fish tank). He especially loves being sung and read to. Andrew is quadriplegic and is totally dependent on others for his daily living activities. He receives Personal Care Services to aide in his care. Andrew has Occupation Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Physical Therapy in the home. Though he is visually impaired, he recognizes the scent of those who are familiar. He is primarily nonverbal, but he can express his likes and dislikes through body language, facial expression, or sound. He is accepting of affection and will interact with others by turning his head in the direction of an individual's voice. Andrew responds best to a calming voice or a gentle touch to his head or chest as it makes him feel safe. Giving Andrew a sense of being in a safe and nurturing home will ease him into the transition to his forever home.

Andrew's forever family will be one who is nurturing, attentive, loving, and will advocate for all his needs. Andrew will benefit from being in a home with other children but that is not required. A family with a pet is okay but it is not recommended to be in his sleeping area. His family will have experience providing care for individuals with medical needs. Andrew would benefit from being in a two parent or one parent home with a strong support system.
