Biography
1836-1916
Also known as Pteh Woptuh'a
Lakota Sioux (Native American) holy man
Horn Chips was orphaned as a young child and raised by his grandmother. Later he was adopted by the uncle of Crazy Horse. He had the gift of prophecy, could change the weather and find lost objects and missing people. He is acknowledged as the man who saved traditional Lakota religion from extinction and he trained a number of successors. His family still dominates native religious life in parts of the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.
