Biography
Maugham was orphaned at the age of 10 and raised by an uncle. He trained as a doctor but was wealthy enough to be able not to work and to devote his time to writing.
His 60-plus books include Of Human Bondage, Razor's Edge, The Narrow Corner, Catalina, The Magician, The Casuarina Tree and The Moon and Sixpence.
He was a stutterer and bisexual.
