Sophia Thomas Mason and Adoption
Biography
Mason's father, a white trader, died in 1828 and she was raised by two different missionary families, rather than by her Cree mother, in Canada.
She married a white minister in 1843 and in 1858 they emigrated to England, where she had nine children.
She was the main translator of the Bible into Cree. She died of pleurisy shortly after finishing the project.
