We're in the beginning stages, having finally made the decision several weeks ago that it is time. My husband and I are both in our mid-40s and live north of the Golden Gate in Sonoma County, California.
We are not home owners, are in the income range of $40-45K a year and have recently started our own business to increase our income. Our area has been hit hard by layoffs (as I'm sure many people are experiencing).
I would appreciate any information available on agencies in my area that are suggested, financing opportunities, support groups, etc. I even received an email from one kind person at an agency that stated that California homestudies are normally $1,200 over average!
We looked into the state foster-care system initially, mostly because the cost was so much lower. However, "the system" is too difficult to deal with, and reunification is an incredible challenge in itself. I'm 47: I want a child that will be my forever child. I don't want a birthmom changing her mind so we have been looking at Guatamala adoption. Talk about big bucks!!
So, any assistance is greatly appreciated. I know my child is waiting for us. Hubby is even going to learn "Return to Pooh Corner" on his guitar!
Looking forward to being a part of the Forum!

They are a nonprofit. We got their Adoption Fundraising Ideas book about 6weeks ago or so and we raised $5K+ already! Seriously, there is a TON of info in it! I hope this helps! Suze
