I was born on 2-16-64 at 1:13 PM according to my Birth Certificate, in Little Rock, Arkansas. My parents have told me that my birth name was Larry Harrison. Also according to my Birth Certificate, the attendent at birth was a midwife by the name of "B. E. Hendixson" or "Hendexson". I'm not sure if this is of any value.
I've been told that I was born in a home for unwed Mothers...possibly the Florence Crittendon Home. I was adopted on December 1, 1964 in Little Rock, but my parents told me that I was flown to LR that morning. Possibly, I was born in the Fayetteville/Fort Smith area. I'm not sure what to believe here.
I'm curious to know if there were any Homes for Unwed Mothers in that area, at the time.
I've been told two separate stories about my birth. At first, I was told my Mother was between 12-13 years of age and my Father was a year older. Later, I was told she was in college.
I was one of the lucky ones, in that I have been blessed with the greatest parents in the world, but I've always been curious about the others. My parents don't understand why I can't just accept their history as mine, so it's hard to push for many more answers that they may or may not have.
Recently, I've requested the "Non-Identifying Information" and will try to join the Mutual Consent Registry if I can find the 'one hour conseling' neccessary to be listed.
Dear Sir,
There is a Florence Crittendon Home in the Little Rock, AR area. If you call, visit, or write there you should address it to Jean Mayher, not for sure if that's the correct spelling of her last name. She was extremely helpful in finding some infomation for me in my deepest , darkess search. I had very little information , but she continued to encourage and support. Good luck.....Kyla ladyroux2000@yahoo.com.

Dear Larry,
I just wanted to let you know that I have also registered with the Mutual consent voluntary Registry in Arkansas and that the 1 hour of counselling is provided free by the registry and its basically just a visit to see why you are searching.
What is interesting about your post is that I am looking for a baby boy by the name of Larry Turner born in Jan or Feb of 1964. My aunt(the mother) was 15 and was in an unwed mothers home in North Little rock. Because she was not from the area and was very sheltered while in the home, she is not sure what hospital she was taken to, to deliver. It was done thru the state and the baby was immediately taken away because she was a ward of the state.
Anyway, please get registered as soon as possible. It doesnt cost anything and at the very least is a step in the right direction.Good luck in your search.
I have applied to be added to the Mutual Consent Registry. Being a Tennessee resident, it did cost to get the counseling ($130 or so). I've also sent for the non-identifying information, but that was last Fall and I've yet to hear anything from them. My last email went unanswered.
FWIW, keep in touch with me via this thread. I truly don't know how much correct information I have recieved, so for all I know, my birth name could be Turner.
Hi "Larry"?
I know what you mean about last fall. I registered in August of 2003 and havent heard anything yet. I occasionally send an email to Judy Ford, my contact and found out this week that I am finally #35, down from #70 where I started. And even that is no guarantee that I'll find out anythng because they can only tell me something if "Larry " has registered also. Thats where the mutual comes in. It would almost be a miracle that both parties are signed up at the same time.
Anyway, in my search, I have been unable to find an unwed mothers home in NLR that was run by the Arkansas State Welfare Dept at that time. My aunt remembers the lady that ran it and her name was Ms Wyatt. She is sure that it was a private home because there were only about 4 other girls there. She was taken to have her baby in the middle of the night and then taken directly back to the home. She is unsure if it was a hospital, clininc, or what. It seems that her memories are very sketchy and I can only guess that it must have been terrifying for her. 15 yrs old, 100 miles away from any family and the father of her baby was a 28 yr old man who really didnt want a family at that time. She became a ward of the state and she was taken to NLR to have her baby and then he was taken away from her. With information like that, I am afraid it is going to be very hard to find out anything, so our only hope is the MCVAR.
And thats really ok. Because if "Larry" doesnt know anything or want to know anything, neither do I. But if he does, I am here.
My thoughts are prayers are with you in your search. I hope you find what you are looking for. Keep in touch.....Linda
Update.
I finally got my non-identifying information in the mail today (2-8-05). They must really be backed up. :(
Anyway, she was in her early 20's and had completed 3 years of college when I came along. Despite pressure from her family, she gave me up to finish her degree.
Her physical description is "a plain looking person with "carrot red" hair with plain features; however, she had an intelligent appearance and had a pleasant outgoing personality." She had lost her father in a plane crash, before I was born. Her mother was in the medical profession.
She had been in a home for unwed mothers before I was born. I was born in a hospital and the delivery was "moderately difficult", as forceps were used. After birth, I was discharged from the hospital and placed in a foster home.
I have blue eyes, and the father had brown. I guess there's a possibility that she may have blue as well, but my documents didn't include that information.
Also, she hasn't registered with the reunion registry.
Interesting, but of no help. No medical history was listed.

Do you know what state your birth mother was from? If so, try to look up old newspapers for a plane crash and victim. Then search for obit then look for children listed. This should narrow your search. I would think she listed this for a reason. I lived about 10 miles from the arkansas state line near Blytheville if I could assist you. moclifton@yahoo.com

Thanks SEMO. I have begun to follow that lead already. I'm not sure she's from Arkansas, but it's worth a shot to assume she is.
Thanks for the offer, but I have an attorney friend that works in LR....right next to the state archives.
