My husband and I would like to adopt from Africa....however we have a HUGE problem! The cost is just way too high for us. My husband is in the military and I'm a stay at home mom so money is already tight.
We'd REALLY love to bring home an older child that needs a loving family. I was wondering how everyone affords to adopt?? I mean, I've heard of some people raising money through fundraising....others take out loans. What do you all do???
We're worried we won't be able to adopt because of the cost. Any help or info would be wonderful!
Sincerely,
Jessica
Again, to forum management, I am really not trying to spam about this, it's just we finally added up what we did in the last couple of weeks, over this last weekend and we raised over $5K in about 6weeks, so I really want to share what has turned out to be a good thing for us!

They're a nonprofit and they have a book on Adoption Fundraising. We had no clue at all how to get going and they had all kinds of ideas and HOW to do them in detail. Seriously, we were blown away when we finally added up this weekend.
I hope this helps. Suze

I just saw your posting and here is some info I found out about. if your husband is active in the service they with give you 5,000 dollars towards your adoption
My husband and I are about at the same point as you, so we have been doing a lot of research about financing. We found some banks that will do special loans for the amount that you will be reimbursed through incometax credit. As you probably already know, federal is $10,000 and our state offers $1200. I am not sure what the interest rates are but I have heard that the payments are low.

Are these banks in your local area? I would be really interested in this.
I am new to this board so I will offer a brief introduction. My name is Lori and my husband is Roy. We live in Maine with our 3 bio children (16f, 14m, 12f) and a 2 yr old from Haiti whom we are hosting while he receives treatment for cerebral palsy. He is an orphan and came to the US on a medical visa in March. We have decided to pursue an adoption, but we are a one income family and funds are limited.
If anyone has any good fundraising ideas I would sure appreciate hearing about them.
Thanks,
Lori
Hmmm... Have you thought about contacting your local officers' club and asking if they'd have a fundraiser night for you? Just an idea!

Hi Beanaries,
I am in the same boat (so to speak) as Jeskarose in that my husband is active military and I am a stay at home mom of one.
We are talking of adopting from China and I was interested in your post that the military would give active duty money to assist international adoption. I was wondering where you heard or saw that so that I can get my husband to follow up on it.
Many Thanks
Hi there,
Also a military family...the military will reimburse up to $2000 per child, max of $5000 per year (if adopting more than one child). You file for reimbursement after the adoption is completed.
Hope this helps!
