I just wanted to know if there is any one in mississippi that is active on the forums. Haven't seen much communication.
Hello neighbors!
I just joined this forum today. My DH and I live in Cleveland, MS (about 1/2 way between Memphis and Jackson).
We are just about to embark on the adoption journey. I'm 37, he is 40. He does have one daughter, but I am unable to conceive.
This is a very overwhelming process! I am surfing now, trying to find out exactly WHERE to start! We are looking to adopt from within the US due to costs.

Ronda, Welcome!! My husband and I are in south Mississippi, and we are in the process of adopting our 2nd child domestically through Bethany Christian Services. Take care and God Bless!!
:)
[Edited To Remove the URL to an agency website.]
OleMelissa,
I was adopted in Hattiesburg and would be glad to tell you who my parents went through to get me.
:p
Hello everyone,
I'm also from Mississippi. My husband and I adopted a precious baby boy. Fortunately, we did not have to go through an adoption agency. We knew the biological parents. The adoption was finalized July 03. He is now 16 months and the biological mother wants him back. Do you think this is possible, because they both terminated their parental rights. Any words of encouragement would really be appreciated. I am about to fall apart.
i live in waveland and just started on this site,i am still trying to figure it out ,i close by to gulfport

Hi Girl,
I'm over in Ocean Springs and we're in the dreaded "waiting." Blah!
Don't know if you're still around, but I thought I'd try to touch base with a fellow "coast rat." :p If you'd like to chat, just let me know. :)

hello
i still here, i live in waveland i am in the process of adopting from guatamala what country are you adopting from?
Hi girl,
I see we both made it through the hurricane with our computers intact! :)
Right now, we're going the foster care route because we want older kids and it just seems the right way for us now. We already have a 7 y.o. birth child.
A friend of mine is adopting and older sibling group from Russia right now and is really urging me to look into it, so I'll be soon getting an education with this international stuff you're experiencing! I'm not sure where we will end up, but the way things are in MS, I may end up with an international completion before the state of MS does anything productive.
Where are you in the process?
Jo
i at the waiting period were you going to court and the mother should be signing the 4th and final time to give up her rights then it has to go to something called pgn which is something like the attorney general in the usa for approval then that can be 2 weeks or 2 months who knows until it is approved then a few weeks later you make your trip to pick the child up
i tried for a couple of years to adopt from the state but they wanted to give me a older child over 8 years old when i wanted a child about 4 years old . do you have any foster children yet or is this your first time ? do you want to do the oversea adoption or state adoption only? i tried for a long time to adopt thur the state but i did not get any where and decided to do overseas because you could not get anywhere with them and time was going by and i was getting older.i did not know if i could afford it but it is hard to save for it but i can not wait to pick up my child.

I am in MS (about 20 miles south of Jackson). We adopted our son through the state in Aug 2003. I grew up on the Coast though :)
This MS thread is hit and miss! As long as we all check the boards every few months we might have quite the conversation going! :)
I've posted in other areas that we were matched and are finalizing, but I thought I'd pop on here and share it too. We were matched with a fantastic 10 year old boy, who has lived with us since January. He and my biological son are a perfect fit! My 7 year old can't wait until his brother is "officially" his! We'll be finalizing during the first week in August...just waiting for the clock to tick by at this point.
It seems like the wait is forver...then WOW! It's amazing!
Good luck to you who are searching and waiting! It DOES happen!

Hello fellow MS adoptive families! I live in Brandon, MS. I have two children adopted from Guatemala. We brought our son home in Dec. 2002 and brought our daughter came home in Nov. 2004. It's been a while since I have posted on this board, I'm glad to see some "life" out there. I hope to see you all online again!
Hi to all in this forum. From reading the few posts on here, I see that families from MS rarely visit this site. Hopefully, that can change. I am pretty sure there are other local families out there that would love to be able to speak and meet with other families to discuss and share stories and network. So, I hope that this forum will become as active as all the others on the site. It would be great!
My husband and I live in MS. We have been here for 9 years, by way of the military. We have been discussing adoption for a number of years and are now starting the process. If any of you have any good references, whether it is for an attorney, agency or anything that we may need, it would be greatly appreciated. We are planning on going through the state system to adopt. If any of you have any knowledge on the MS system, please share. We are always looking on the state's photolistings, but they are not updated and have not been updated for some time, since we last looked.
I remember about a year ago, there was a situation that presented itself. The bmom had 5 children, was with a man who was 20 years older and he sold drugs. We know all of this b/c this is family of my goddaughter. Well, the bmom was OK to sign, but the bdad said absolutely not and that if I wanted this child, we would have to pay for it, even though social services was taking all the children. My husband and I said ABSOLUTELY NOT. This was definitely not the child for us.
It was heartbreaking b/c my hubby is not the type to be all emotional, but he was really looking forward to having the baby home that day. He took off work early and everything. And I was getting ready to take off early when I got the phonecall from my goddaughter's mom, saying to hold on before I headed over b/c the bdad had taken the bmom and children and noone knew where they were. Well, thankfully, they were found.
So, we haven't been through that much or as much as others have, but that was a real heartbreaker for both my husband and I. My heart aches for a child of our own. It has been a rough rollercoaster, which I am sure all of you can relate to.
If any of you have any knowledge or experiences that you wouldn't mind sharing, I would love to hear them.
