Well, here's my first "door" slammed in my face. After FIA (Family Independant Agency for Michigan) submitted my case (contracted it out) to Bethany Christian Services, Craig and I had our first class. This was aobut a month ago. Knowing that I am the one who is adopting, as a single father, and Craig may someday also adopt, we called the agency to ask if the homestudy credits were also going towards him. After a month, we just got a call back today saying that because of their values, Bethany is dropping our case. I know there is really nothing I can do and I guess I expected some of this, so I was prepared for it. So, now I just put in a call to my worker at FIA and I will hear what he has to say.

Hi Brad.
Sorry to hear the first place was a dud. Don't let it discourage you though. There are places that will deal with gays and lesbians adopting.
Check out http://www.hrc.org/familynet/adoption_groups.asp for a list of gay-friendly agencies. I just looked up Michigan, and it provided an agency that is based in Illinois that apparently deals with Michigan clients.
I couldn't find the Illinois agency's website, but I did find an interesting one in California at http://www.adoptlink.com/domestic_grid.htm that does infant adoptions, some with gay and lesbian adoptive parents, and some with out-of-state adoptive parents.
You might also want to contact local gay and lesbian parenting groups or community centres and see if they have any recommendations.
