Does anyone know if historically Cook County will open records upon request? I know you are supposed to petition the Presiding Judge of the County Division...wondering if they honor requests/petitions
I'm sorry my idea was a bust. I have heard there are ways to find any/all records if you are persistent and willing to pay. I spoke to a private investigator about finding my grandmother's records before I successfully got them in a more straightforward way. I'm not sure if a PI is borderline illegal, but I feel everyone has a right to know their family history. Interesting about growing up in Kenilworth; I grew up in Wilmette near the Bahai Temple, and spent LOTS of summers on the Gillson Park beach! It was a wonderful place to grow up. Since you're near the Cradle I assume you've contacted them about your birth records. Have they been helpful?

My boyfriend was born in 1955 and adopted. His birth mother's surname is supposedly Maranto...is this any relation? Would you know a Mary or Margaret that would be around 64 today. Is this any relation to you? Please...any information would be helpful.
Lauren, I'm so sorry but it doesn't sound like your boyfriend is related to my branch of the Maranto family. Undoubtedly we are all related back in Sicily, but I do not know of a Mary or Margaret who would be about 64. I am going to a family get-together this weekend. I'll ask if they know anything about a Maranto adoption in 1955. I'll let you know what I find out.
Thanks for your reply. Maybe her name was not Mary or Margaret, who knows. Find out if there is anyone in the 63-66 age range who might have given up a baby boy in1955. We would both be so grateful if he could find some birth family.
I will look forward to hearing from you.
I will ask the family if anyone knows of anybody who gave up a child in 1955, in either our branch of the family or another. I asked my husband (The "real" Maranto) and he didn't think anyone in his family gave up a child. Still, I'll be sure to ask this weekend and let you know what I find out. Julie

Thanks Julie, I will look forward to hearing from you. I will probably not have access to my email again until Mon or Tues.
Thanks again.
Lauren
We are doing the intermediatry thing soon...next month for the Cook County courts. It cost $525.00 and my sister and I are splitting the cost. If you can't afford it...try getting someone else to go in on it with you..Good Luck.

If you were adopted through The Cradle in Evanston, here's a suggestion for you. If you know either your mother or father's name, try looking through old Northwestern University yearbooks if you'd like to see their picture. Lots of babies given up at The Cradle had parents who were NU students. I believe old yearbooks are available at Deering Library on the NU campus. I'm an alum and I worked for several years at various NU libraries. One of the librarians in our town saw a picture of his birth father in an NU yearbook. He, too, was adopted from The Cradle; that's where I got the idea. I have an NU alumni association directory, too, if you want me to look up a name.
Can you please look up someone for me? email me with your reply. Thanks
Hi
Thanks for writing back, but I know where my parents went to school. And Their names.
I am looking for my grandparents(Birth ones not adoptive). I have no idea where they went to school. I know the mother only completed 2 years of high school and the father graduated from high school. It would probably have been in 1925 that the father graduated...but I don't have a name or a school or even if he went to one in Evanston,Chicago,,or a surrounding area...Thank you kindly for caring.

How did you find out there were two names for your birthmom? And how much does it cost to do a dna test? I am at my wits end. Please email me. It sounds like you may have some info I could use!
Hi I was adopted thru The Cradle and I know my birthmother's name, I still live in Il, can you help me ?
WOW seeing the name Judge Comerford up there is weird because he was the judge who did my adoption and the only time I ever saw his name was on my adoption papers. Im new to this site and I was wondering if adoptions were open to the public but from what I have been reading I guess they are hard to get . I just found my birth mother and found out that i have 4 other sisters and got in contact with one only because she already found my birthmother also I was just wondering how hard it would be to find my other sisters. Any tips would be greatly helpfull. Thanks!!

I was adopted through Catholic Charities in Chicago. Birth date of 7/23/56 female. The name Susan Hill was mentioned as either my birth name before adoption or my mother's name. Don't know where to start. Any ideas?
How did you go about getting the records. I am trying to get my Mother's records so that we can locate her birthfather. We have located my grandmother, though she unfortunately passed away. Can you tell me what the cost was for you. Did you have to appear in court?
Deperately seeking...
