A new thread today has made me curious. There are 36,748 members in this forum right now. I know it is possible to have more than one identity. What I am wondering is if there is any way to remove oneself from the membership list. I am not wanting to, but if there were a way to do so perhaps it would make administering this forum easier. I'm glad it is not my responsibility to take care of all of us! Maybe dead wood just floats out to sea! I hope I am posting in the correct place!

Hi Julie! I KNOW there is a way, because I have seen it done. But I have no idea how. The vast majority of members are inactive, most likely long gone. But there is a large group that "lurks" (not an insulting term, a computer term for someone who reads but does not participate) I agree the administrators have their hands full. Debi

Many of us members do "lurk" vs actively post as our placements are of a previous timeframe and we keep up to date on new situations/information by lurking as well as pop in with words of wisdom when appropriate ... that doesn't mean we are deadwood ... just "lurkers".
For Info .... many of us have vast amount of positive and productive information that will be (and is) inputted when we feel it appropriate ... placements of late have been far and few behind so this knowledge has not recently been applicable ...
Hope this helps you understand the 'lurking'.
I understand the "lurking". I lurk in certain threads and post in others, myself. Some days I'm only in the mood to lurk. Actually I'm pretty much the same in person, somewhat quiet in a group, but I do listen well, feel connected, and I've learned so much here. I'm still trying to figure out how to post my biggest concerns concisely!
The real reason I asked is that I registered a few months back at Fosterparenting.com but am way too busy to ever go there. This forum meets all my needs and consumes way too much of my time already (but I do love you, my friends!). I don't know what I'll do when school starts in a few days. The foster parenting site might like to delete me, however!
