Hi all --
I know this question's been asked before, but I thought I'd ask it again -- are there any other single LDS adoptive (pre-adoptive) parents on this list? If so, I was wondering what the response of your church leaders and friends have been to your decision to adopt. If you wish, you can email me privately at canterburytales93@yahoo.com.
Thanks,
Dawn

I adopted my daughter as an lds single female. I was totally supported by my friends and most of my family as my daughter was a relation of mine. On the flip side LDS social services would not help at all and I feel bad that my daughter has no father and have found it to be very difficult to be a single mom. My daughter is also on a new kick that she wants a little brother....

Hi Heather --
I'm in the process of adopting from Kazakhstan. I figured since I'm 36 and wanted a moderately sized family, but have no current marriage prospects, I'd jumpstart my family. Gratefully, my bishop and ward are totally supportive, as is my family (they live in another state). My single LDS friends are more apprehensive, and I actually had one of my friends whom I considered very close end our friendship without so much as a discussion. However, I suppose I will encounter negative responses from time to time.
Have you involved anyone in particular to be a male presence in your daughter's life? I'm most likely adopting a boy (18 months or younger) and have been including a married couple who are good friends in all of my plans so they can provide support to me and, more importantly, to my child.
Any advice you have I'd appreciate.
Thanks!
Dawn
