Our Psychologist suggested that our son isn't getting enough sleep. For the past 4 years ds has never really slept much. If he gets even a 20min nap during the day he won't go out before 12:00am (and quite often is up until 1am). Her normally gets 7-9hrs. a night less if he naps during the day; which we do our best to prevent.
That said, he's thinking that our son may need medication to help sleep better and establish a better sleep habits. What types of meds. do they give children this age for this situation?? And if he has ADHD won't it actually keep him up at night??
Thanks Again.
If he normally gets 7 to 9 hours a night, I would not think medication would be indicated... although I am not a health profesional.

My daughter will be three on Friday and she is taking Atarax to help her sleep along with Melatonin to help with a pattern.
You might ask your doctor about a sleep study to see exactly what the problem is. We had one on our daughter, it showed that she actually stops breathing every other minute.
She has since had her adnoids out and has been seeing a pulmonologist for her asthma and is doing much better.
Not always sleeping though the night, but doing much better.
I know what you are going though, good luck to all involved.
